Spotlight on climate action
The climate emergency is a direct consequence of carbon-heavy land-use and agriculture, transport, buildings and industrial processes and polluting energy sources. Without profound changes to these sectors and a drastic cut to carbon footprints, there is little hope to protect the planet from the worst effects of a warmer world.
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) stands at the core of the action in the fight against climate change. We call for greater ambition from countries and recognition of the benefits of integrating natural systems into concrete climate action.
Below are highlights from the United Nations System, from partners and from others helping to call attention to the fact that the future of humanity depends on action now.
