NEW VISION FOR AN OLD COUNTRY: A New Way Forwards
Is there anywhere quiet to go anymore, a sanctuary, away from the ‘noise’? The church is no longer a touchstone, the library has been abandoned or lost its warmth to the incivilities of the internet. Governments are shameless hierarchies laying thoughtless claim to be for the people. We are bombarded with trash imagery begging us to buy or worse, submit. The popular press applauds sensationalism and chills the truth. Arts and culture are being erased from education. No sanctuary.
Connect the spiritual crises to the ecological crisis that we face and there is a desperate need for long-term thinking alongside an injection into the system of something immediate – some kind of honesty, reasonableness and vision?

MUSEUMS AS AGENTS OF CHANGE
Via the internet we have endless connectivity and opportunity for conversation. Through social media anyone, anywhere can connect and ‘spread the word’. But that has dangers, now obvious and proven. The traditional gatekeepers of the news, of ‘truth’ are gone. Now ‘truth’ is in the hands of malevolent minorities influencing (vulnerable) populations, creating a populism based on misinformation.
The short-termism of politics and business should no longer be allowed to prevail as the cultural métier. We’ve seen how that corrupts and destroys. It is unfit for progress into the 21st century. We need to hold nature in higher regard, to see and respect a truth beyond the human psyche, learn from humility and vulnerability and see societies through the lens of the arts, science and humanities. We need to realise more vision and value in education and charity should become more woven into thought.
Antidotes to short-termism are increasingly needed. There are many, many out there. From global charities, International Organisations and NGO’s, science institutes, arts foundations, educational establishments to smaller local charities and individuals. Thinking forwards, looking to the other. Seeking solutions based on empirical evidence and advancements with reason at their core. Caring for the displaced, understanding why. The Olive Network represents them, wishes to amplify their call.
A New Way Forwards hopes to embrace the needs of all those seeking a new 'Vision for Britain'.
