ABOUT - ClientEarth
SOURCE: ClientEarth
We use the power of law to bring about systemic change that protects the earth for – and with – its inhabitants.
We are one of the world's most ambitious environmental organisations
We come up with practical solutions to some of the world’s toughest environmental challenges, and work with people, campaigners, governments and industry to make those solutions a reality. We change the system from within, working with, instead of against, its most powerful players. And we give people, partners and organisations the tools they need to do the same.
We work in partnership across borders, systems and sectors, using the law to protect life on earth. We work to bring about end-to-end systemic change: informing, implementing and enforcing the law, advising decision-makers on policy, and training legal and judicial professionals.
We started with one lawyer and his laptop in 2007.
ClientEarth founder James Thornton was a Wall Street lawyer who won over 80 cases to force the Reagan Administration to clean up polluted water. Then he moved to London, and ClientEarth was born.
Now we are over 200 people, with eight offices around the world, creating powerful change for life on Earth.
ClientEarth works in over 60 countries through a network of ClientEarth branches, representative offices and subsidiaries, as well as through strategic partners with a shared vision of a future where people and planet thrive together.
Our Global Board of Trustees and Global Leadership Group set the strategic direction of ClientEarth worldwide and ensure the highest standards of transparency, integrity and accountability across ClientEarth.
Each ClientEarth office and entity contributes to our shared goal, bringing its own local focus and expertise.
We work in partnership across borders, systems and sectors.
Our work focuses on changing the system – informing, implementing and enforcing the law, advising decision-makers on policy and training legal and judicial professionals.
In 2017, we were named the ‘UK’s most effective environmental organisation’ by the Environmental Funders Network.
